Dick had over 130 books published during his lifetime.

Known as ‘The Master of Animal Adventures’, he is renowned for writing stories about animals, but can you guess which animal is most common as a main character in his books? Could it be a pig, a cat or a mouse? The answer might surprise you!

The most common animal by far in Dick’s stories is…people! 53 of his titles have a human main character.

The next most common animal is dogs, with 13 titles, followed by pigs with 11, then cats with 6 and mice and mythological creatures, both with 4. There are many animals about which Dick has only written 1 story with them as the main character, including a chameleon, a hare, a camel and a beetle!

Amazingly, he wrote more stories about mythological creatures than he did about hedgehogs!
