Caution! Hodgehegs Crossing!

Published on Wednesday, June 19th, 2019

We all know that roads can be dangerous places, for human beings as well as animals.

Anyone who has read Dick’s book The Hodgeheg will remember that Max the hedgehog has a very hard time crossing the busy road in order to reach the park on the other side.

Luckily the Department for Transport has commissioned these new signs that warn motorists of small wildlife who may be crossing the road.

I’m sure Max would approve…

As a fan of Dick King Smith’s books, and also a hedgehog fan, I really enjoyed reading The Hodgeheg recently. The only thing I noticed was that it mentions twice about hedgehogs eating bread and milk (p28 and p51). Bread and milk are bad for hedgehogs and I wonder if you could add something in the introduction, or the blurb, to say that this is the case.

That’s true. I guess we’ve learned a lot since Dick wrote it in the mid-eighties. Good suggestion.
