Gloucester Cathedral and the King-Smith family are delighted to invite you all to a day of celebration marking Dick King-Smith’s centenary year. We would love you all to join us on Saturday 11th March 2023.
Dick King-Smith is most famous for writing ‘The Sheep-Pig’, the novel which inspired the Oscar-winning film, ‘Babe’. His other heart-warming tales include The Hodgeheg, ‘The Fox Busters’, ‘Harry’s Mad’, as well as ‘Ambrose Follows His Nose’, an unfinished novel which Dick’s great-granddaughter Josie Rogers recently completed. The shiny-new paperback edition of Ambrose is released by Puffin on 9th March 2023.
The family are also celebrating the 40th anniversary of The Sheep-Pig, and a special edition of this timeless story with a foreword by Michael Morpurgo is also being released on 9th March.
Families are warmly welcomed to join us for a number of special events in the Chapter House of the Cathedral between 12noon-4pm, including:
– A Q&A with the King-Smith family at 12noon.
– Book signings by Ambrose Follows His Nose co-author Josie Rogers, and readings from some of Dick’s stories by Josie and Dick’s three children, Liz, Giles and Juliet.
– FREE Arts and Crafts activities with Read with Me.
During Choral Evensong at 4.30pm, thanks and praise will be given for Dick King Smith’s life and legacy.
All are welcome to attend, with no tickets required, and we look forward to seeing you there!
