Amazingly, this year marks the 25th anniversary of the film Babe, based on Dick’s 1983 novel The Sheep-Pig (Babe the Gallant Pig).

Released in 1995, the film was a box office smash, opening to glowing reviews from critics and charming audiences worldwide.

The film did so well that it was nominated for seven Oscars, including Best Picture! It won the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects.

Babe had such an impact that it turned many people into vegetarians or vegans, including James Cromwell, the actor who played Farmer Hoggett. Since working on the film, he has been a tireless campaigner for animal rights.

Babe himself was played by 48 real pigs, all of which were female. All-in-all, there were 970 animals on set!

Dick and his wife Myrle were extremely happy with the film, and felt that it really captured the essence of Dick’s story very well.

So to Babe we say thanks. It is true, a little pig DOES go a long way!
