World Book Day!

Published on Tuesday, March 10th, 2026

On World Book Day, Dick’s daughter Juliet and her son Charlie were lucky enough to be invited to Farmborough Church Primary School in Somerset to meet some of the children.

Farmborough is the school were Dick taught for seven years before he became a children’s author. For many years after he retired from teaching and was writing full time, he used to visit the school regularly to read to the children and answer some of their questions.

We presented a slideshow that explained a bit about Dick’s life and some of the stories he wrote, and then read some extracts from some of those books – Dumpling, Alphabeasts and Friends and Brothers. Then we answered some questions about Dick.

It was a lovely day, and we got to meet lots and lots of children, most of whom were sporting amazing costumes for WBD!

We’d like to thank all of the children for listening so well, and for asking such thoughtful and interesting questions. Thanks also to all the teachers and especially Headmaster Darren Roberts for inviting us.

We hope to come back and visit someday!
